Caretta caretta nests in Castel Volturno
The Domitian coast is confirmed as a true paradise for sea turtle nesting. We are only at the beginning of the 2025 season, but 16 nests of turtles have already been identified on the beaches of Castel Volturno. Caretta caretta, a record number that tells a story of environmental rebirth and protection of the territory.
The Legambiente Geofilos Circle speaks of a historic milestone, the result of years of shared work between volunteers, marine biologists, Port Authorities and scientific institutions such as the Anton Dohrn Zoological Station. From 2021 to today, 70 nests have been secured along the Caserta coast: numbers that testify to the effectiveness of a virtuous network built with passion and perseverance.
"This result is a source of pride, but also an invitation not to stop", explains Francesco Pascale, volunteer Legambiente. «The Domitian coast is responding with awareness and commitment, and is increasingly capable of welcoming and protecting sea turtles». The spawning will continue until August and each nest is a small victory for the coastal ecosystem, a powerful signal that nature, when respected, is ready to return.
