Cyclist Falls Into Ravine In Ariano Irpino: 28-Year-Old Macedonian In Serious Condition

Ariano Irpino – A serious accident involved a group of Macedonian cyclists late this morning in the locality of Centovie, in the territory of Ariano IrpinoA 28-year-old man fell off a cliff on his bike, suffering head trauma and multiple fractures.

The young man, a member of the “Falanga Struga Macedonian”, a group of passionate cyclists originally from North Macedonia, was riding a steep downhill stretch with the group.

According to initial reconstructions, he had left Puglia with Naples as his destination and would have followed the directions of a satellite navigator, which could have led him on a difficult and dangerous route. He lost control of the bike, ending up in a ravine several meters deep.

The young man was found unconscious by his companions, who immediately alerted 118. Given the seriousness of the conditions, an emergency ambulance intervened to stabilize the injured man. The helicopter ambulance transported him urgently to the “Moscati” Hospital in Avellino.

The 28-year-old is hospitalized in intensive care with head trauma, multiple fractures and widespread bruising. His condition remains serious but stable.

It is not yet clear whether the GPS actually indicated a route unsuitable for bicycles. The road the group took is in fact very steep and unprotected, more suitable for off-road vehicles than for cyclists.

The 28-year-old's companions, shocked by the incident, said they had chosen the route based on apps dedicated to cycling tourism, but that there may have been an error in the interpretation of the maps.
