The new editorial masterpiece by Homo Scrivens is preparing to revolutionize the concept of traditional travel guide. Narrative Guide of Europe, edited by Giancarlo Marino and Aldo Putignano, is not just a book, but an immersive experience that crosses the essential stages of the European continent.
Making the volume even more evocative, which represents an enlightening tribute to the art of travel, is the prestigious preface signed by Giovanni Scipioni, for years director of the insert “I Viaggi di Repubblica”, who explains to readers: «There is no more effective way than narration to explain a journey and fuel the desire to travel».
From majestic capitals like London, Madrid and Lisbon to the most hidden corners of Croatia or Transylvania, this volume takes the reader on an exciting journey through unpublished stories, useful columns and authorial advice: what to pack, unmissable monuments, curiosities and even itineraries for “unusual” photos to be replicated.
Not just a tourist guide, but an intimate story to create your personal connection with the cities you visit. Narrative Guide to Europe is much more than a book, it is the ideal travel companion, created to inspire and make each destination unique.
Through over fifty engaging stories, this guide breaks down the clichés of classic tourist-informative guides and integrates moments of reflection, personal experiences of the authors and a perfect mix of narrative and practicality.
Each chapter is enriched with original columns such as “Why go”, “Top 5 things to see”, and “Personal advice”, offering you an immersive view of European cultures and helping you plan every stop of your holiday. From the luxury of Vienna to the mystery of Bruges, from the golden shores of Dubrovnik to the melancholic charm of St. Petersburg, let yourself be transported by vibrant stories that cross the past and present.
Founded in Naples in 2002, Homo Scrivens is one of the main independent publishing houses in the Italian panorama, with a clear mission: to promote contemporary fiction and give voice to emerging and established writers.
Homo Scrivens, the first Italian writing company, has collaborated with numerous publishers from all over Italy and has brought to publication around four hundred authors, many of whom were debuting.
From this experience, the publishing house Homo Scrivens was born in 2012, in order to continue this commitment in an autonomous form, and bring texts and authors to the direct attention of the public.
“We are writers, writers who have decided to become publishers, to allow many like us a peaceful landing, to create a meeting place accessible to all those who are animated by our same passion and have the desire and the head to cultivate it, without the risk of drowning in the mud of paid publishing.” – explain the writers who gave life to this prestigious and innovative publishing reality.
Under the editorial direction of Aldo Putignano, the publishing house has built a rich and transversal catalogue, ranging from fiction to essays, from poetry to popularization.
Among the most famous publications, “Gatti neri e vicoli bui” stands out: a volume of three stories by Maurizio De Giovanni, Serena Venditto and Francesco Pinto. A work that has contributed to consolidating the prestige of the publishing house, which has now been followed by “Nero come il buio” with Franco Forte, Diego Lama and Letizia Vicidomini.
Homo Scrivens is also the publisher of rare pearls of forgotten literature, such as “Mercy Merrick. The New Magdalen” by Wilkie Collins, republished in an accurate and updated translation. The publishing house also stands out for its cultural projects, thematic series and literary events that animate the Neapolitan and national scene.
Among the most famous titles published are the already mentioned Black Cats and Dark Alleys and Pizzeria Inferno, The Spy Has Red Hair, Mud and Ashes, Lady Madonna, Dog's Nose (by Attilio Veraldi), Please Don't Touch My Disabled People, The Rugby Suitcase and Petrosino. The Terror of the Black Hand (re-release).
Homo Scrivens is also the organizer of the national literary competition Visioni. Imagining the past to build the future and of the Visioni City Festival, which this year will be held from 3 to 6 July 2025 in Sessa Aurunca (CE), with guests such as Maurizio de Giovanni, Viola Ardone and Antonio Scurati.
The official presentation of the text will take place on Wednesday 10 June 2025, at Slash art/music – located in via Gemito 20, Naples, in the Vomero district.
A special opportunity to meet the authors, who will talk about their travels and reveal the background to the stories, accompanied by the curators of the guide.
Slash, a pub-bistro with a cultural and convivial spirit, is also the perfect place for an aperitif: when you drink your first drink, you get a second free.
