Concert for Peace with Jovanotti and De Gregori
Napoli – It will not only be a celebration for Enzo Avitabile's 70th birthday, but a real musical and civil event. On Sunday 29th June, in Piazza Mercato, the multifaceted Neapolitan artist will take the stage with two big names in Italian music: Lorenzo Jovanotti and Francesco De Gregori. They will also be joined by the Mauritanian Daby Touré, former collaborator of Peter Gabriel and voice of the iconic Mane e mane, a historic song by Avitabile.
"It will be a great celebration, but also a political concert and for peace," Avitabile announces. "I have always sung about the suffering of the last and the injustices of the world, and Sunday will be no different. From that stage we will launch messages against war and inequality."
The event closes the triptych of celebrations for his 70th birthday, after the exhibition in the Church of San Severo al Pendino and the release of Poiesis, an album in which his lyrics were interpreted by great names of Neapolitan culture, from Toni Servillo to Mario Martone, Lina Sastri and Silvio Orlando.
In addition to the two giants of Italian songwriting, on stage there will be Daby Touré, a multi-instrumentalist and singer who with Avitabile has created unique sounds, mixing Neapolitan tradition and world music. "Two friends, two extraordinary artists who wanted to be there at this party for Naples," says the musician, also thanking the Municipality and the Region for their support.
Composer, singer-songwriter and experimenter, Avitabile has built a career beyond genres, including prestigious awards – 2 David di Donatello, 2 Targhe Tenco, nominations at the BBC Awards – and global collaborations. On Sunday evening, in a symbolic square in Naples, he will reiterate once again that his music is art and commitment, without compromise.
