Migrant scam, lawyer arrested: "If they don't pay me, I won't even make a card"

IThe business managed by the three lawyers involved in the blitz that uncovered the scam on migrants between Naples and the province, and by the large group of collaborators, turned out to be multi-millionaire. However, the system was not free from tensions.

Some non-EU citizens, feeling cheated after having paid handsomely for the organization's "services", threatened to file a complaint.

This eventuality has pushed Vincenzo Sangiovanni, one of the three lawyers believed to be the promoters of the crime, to threaten retaliation. Among other things, a luxurious Ferrari was confiscated from the latter, believed to be the proceeds of the exploitation of illegal immigration.

The huge demand for applications from Bangladesh and Sri Lanka had however raised suspicions, so much so that thelawyer, intercepted, had to admit to a collaborator that the business was becoming excessively risky.

The wiretaps reveal a disconcerting greed, with explicit phrases that Sangiovanni addresses to a certain Sami (one of the procurers of foreign citizens and who has not been identified): "You gave me 200 thousand euros... you had to give me 600 thousand euros... do they want to come? They have to pay otherwise they have to leave, I won't even make a card if they don't pay me". The investigations continue to shed light on all the details of this complex criminal network.

The Business of “Click-Day”

The organization was structured to exploit the so-called “click-days”, crucial moments for sending entry requests for non-EU citizens. In its ranks, the group included “inserters” and “clickers”, ready to act with high-performance computers and high-speed internet connections to ensure “pre-emption” in the telematic procedures.

The charges contested under various titles are very serious: in addition to the exploitation of illegal immigration, there is talk of extortion aggravated by mafia methods, ideological forgery and fraud.
