Luca Marianucci is only twenty years old, but he already speaks like a veteran. A central defender bought from Empoli for around 9 million euros, he is the first real new face of the Conte version of Napoli. Tomorrow he will undergo medical tests before putting pen to paper on the agreement with the Italian champion club, but his head is already in Castel Volturno.
“If it were up to me I would start the retreat tomorrow”, he declared to Nicolò Schira's website, explaining how the holidays have already left room for thoughts on the new challenge in blue. "I'm proud that a club of this level sought me out and wanted me, it all happened very quickly, but the emotion was very strong. I celebrated with friends and family, it was right to share such an important moment with those who have always been close to me".
The first sparks of the new bond with Napoli were ignited in May, immediately after the match at the Maradona between Napoli and Empoli, when Marianucci exchanged a few words with Di Lorenzo and Politano. “They told me 'we'll see you soon', they were very kind, they immediately made me feel like one of the group”, he says.
There is still no direct contact with Antonio Conte, but the anticipation to work with the Lecce coach is already very high: "I haven't had the pleasure of speaking to him yet, but I hope it happens soon. I know that with a coach of his caliber I will only have to learn, from every point of view."
And if Napoli is the present, the national team is the dream. "The blue of Napoli is already a huge achievement, but the other blue, that of the National team, is the dream of when I was a child. I have never been called up, but if there was an opportunity for the World Cup next year, I would sign. But first I want to help Napoli fight again for the Scudetto".
