Naples – Traffic at a standstill, sidewalks filled with cars parked indiscriminately, horns blaring and rivers of people queuing to enter clubs. This is the scenario that repeats itself every weekend in Coroglio, in the Bagnoli neighborhood of Naples, where the nightlife has taken on the appearance of a nightmare for residents.
This is documented by the images and reports sent by several citizens to the deputy Francesco Emilio Borrelli (Green-Side Alliance), who has long been denouncing the spread of illegality in the area.
“The situation is simply unlivable,” says one of the residents. “Every weekend we are held hostage by traffic, we can’t even get home or find a parking spot. But what makes us even more angry is the lawlessness that is proliferating before everyone’s eyes: illegal parking attendants who ask for 10 euros for each car and do a roaring trade, while the institutions remain silent.”
Citizens report continuous reports sent to the Municipal Police and law enforcement, often left unanswered. “The neighborhood is completely abandoned,” they add. “In the evening it becomes a no man’s land, and those who live there are forced to suffer.”
Borrelli's stance is harsh: "The bad nightlife enriches crime and holds honest citizens hostage. A frontal intervention is needed to crush the system of illicit business that revolves around the night of Coroglio.
Every weekend the underworld collects thousands of euros by extorting managers, illegally occupying public land and imposing itself with violence. We cannot allow entire neighborhoods to end up in the hands of criminals. We need strict controls and permanent security devices”.
The deputy relaunched the appeal to the Municipality and the Prefecture to intervene as soon as possible to re-establish legality and restore liveability to the neighborhood. "The rights of residents cannot be trampled on," he concluded. "It's time to say enough to illegality and defend those who live in those places every day."
