After a hot spring on the public order front, the City Council of Naples has approved two resolutions to restore order to the free beaches of Posillipo, too often the scene of overcrowding, environmental problems and safety risks. A move expected and urged by the Prefect of Naples, who had asked the Municipality to intervene to "regulate user access to the free beaches of the capital".
The measures, immediately effective, are inspired by the experiments of recent years and aim to balance accessibility with the protection of the territory. The adopted model provides for the restriction of entrances and the obligation to book online, with the aim of avoiding scenes of chaos, environmental degradation and tensions between bathers. The results obtained in the past have convinced the administration to make the system structural.
The beaches involved are the most popular in the area: Gaiola, Spiaggia delle Monache and the beach adjacent to Palazzo Donn'Anna. Here, access will be limited to 480 daily entries for the Lido delle Monache and 70 for the Donn'Anna beach. In the event of failure to enter by 13:00 pm, the reservation will automatically lapse, freeing up the space for other users.
Access is also guaranteed to minors aged 14 and over, provided they have booked and can be identified. Those over 70 and citizens belonging to protected categories will be able to enter without booking. Each user will be able to book up to six daily accesses to facilitate large families.
The control will be entrusted to the concessionaires of the nearby establishments – Bagno Elena, Ideal and Sirena – with the support of the Municipality of Naples and the Port Authority. All this while the Underwater Park of the gaiola, also part of the agreement, continues to be an example of sustainable use of the natural and cultural heritage of Naples.
