Salerno– A gang specializing in thefts of alcohol from supermarkets has been dismantled by agents of the Battipaglia Police Station. Three Georgian citizens, all domiciled in Naples, have been reported to the Judicial Authority for the crime of aggravated theft.
The investigation was triggered following the complaint filed by the owner of the Deco supermarket in Oliveto Citra, in Salerno, victim of the gang's attacks. According to the reconstruction of the judicial police, the group used a consolidated and sophisticated modus operandi: while an accomplice acted as a lookout aboard a rental car, the other two hid bottles of champagne and expensive liquors inside their clothes to elude anti-theft systems.
Identified through facial recognition
The identification of the three individuals was made possible thanks to the use of facial recognition databases and the careful investigative activity conducted by the State Police.
Further investigations revealed that the Georgian citizens had numerous criminal records for theft and had already received several expulsion orders from various Italian cities, demonstrating a consolidated criminal activity.
Following the referral, the police order was also issued prohibiting the person from returning to the municipality of Oliveto Citra for three years, a preventive measure to stem further incidents. The operation marks an important success in the fight against serial thefts that affect commercial activities in the area.
