Napoli – Environmental alarm in Naples after the fire that broke out on June 28 in via Gianturco.
The results of the first monitoring cycle carried out by theHarp Campania, with a high-flow sampler positioned near the fire, reveal worrying levels of airborne dioxins, furans and polychlorinated biphenyls.
The recorded concentration, equal to 1,3 pg/Nm³ I-TEQ (picograms per cubic meter in terms of toxicity equivalent), far exceeds the scientific reference value of 0,15 pg/Nm³ I-TEQ indicated by the German LAI.
The monitoring covers the period between the morning of June 30 and the morning of July 1. Although the fixed stations of the regional network did not detect any exceedances of the legal limits for air quality on July 1, the mobile laboratory installed a few dozen meters from the fire site recorded temporary peaks of pollutants, linked to the direction of the wind coming from the affected area. Fortunately, these increases did not violate the regulatory limits.
Arpa Campania continues its analysis and will publish further updates on the website arpacampania.it. The high concentration of dioxins raises concerns for public health and the environment, fueling the debate on the management of environmental emergencies in the city.
