Aurora, died in crib at 8 months in Caserta: bruises and burns on the body, doctors in the courtroom

CASERTA – She was already dead when the 118 doctors entered the room. Aurora Savino, just eight months old, lay lifeless in the house of Santa Maria a Vico, in the province of Caserta. But it was not only the tragic silence of the body that spoke: on the newborn's back, and in other areas of the body, the rescuers immediately noticed bruises and even burns. Obvious, suspicious injuries, which prompted the health workers to immediately call the Carabinieri.

Now those dramatic moments are relived in the Assize Court of Santa Maria Capua Vetere, where the murder trial is being held against the little girl's parents, Emanuele Savino and Anna Gammella, aged 28 and 21 respectively. The couple, who have two other young children, have always denied all charges.

The doctors, heard in the last hearing, described a scene that left little doubt from the start. The tidy double bed, covered only by the bedspread, while the sheets had been placed, inexplicably, in a plastic bag on top of the wardrobe. And then that body, fragile, full of signs visible to the naked eye, as the paramedics of the resuscitation ambulance who intervened on the scene also reiterated.

The little girl's grandmother, the defendant's mother, provided a new version of the facts. According to her, the bruises were caused by toys thrown at her by another grandchild. An attempt, perhaps, to downplay the facts after the previous explanation - already considered not very credible - according to which the marks were the result of “affectionate pinches”. The woman also stated that her daughter had taken Aurora to the pediatrician, but this circumstance was denied by all the doctors already heard during the trial.

At the end of the hearing, Clara Niola, civil party lawyer for Cam Telefono Azzurro, also spoke. Her words are sharp: “Despite respecting the right to defense, incontrovertible elements have already emerged regarding the injuries suffered by Aurora. At this point, silence would make even more noise.”
