Chaos at the port of Capri with queues that last for miles
COpen – A Monday morning of ordinary madness in Capri, where the port was engulfed in chaos: thousands of tourists invaded the area, creating miles-long queues for the funicular and paralyzing traffic.
Scenes of disorder, documented in videos sent to the Green-Left Alliance MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli, show a situation on the verge of collapse, with difficulty even moving on foot among the crowds and blocked vehicles.
"This isn't tourism, much less luxury tourism," thundered Borrelli. "It's pure sloppiness and mismanagement. Capri, a jewel known throughout the world, cannot offer such a spectacle to visitors who come from every corner of the planet.
Serious planning of tourist flows is needed to avoid damaging the island's image and penalizing residents. "It's time to offer adequate services, instead of profiting off unsuspecting tourists," the MP concluded. This is yet another wake-up call for an island that, despite its international fame, seems unprepared to handle the enormous influx of visitors, jeopardizing its reputation and the quality of the tourist experience.
