Cesa, killed two brothers for traffic reasons: sentenced to life imprisonment

Napoli– Life imprisonment with three years of daytime isolation for Antonio Mangiacapre, the 54-year-old worker originally from Cesa found guilty of the double homicide of brothers Marco and Claudio Marrandino, respectively a 39-year-old lawyer and a 29-year-old building contractor.

The sentence was pronounced by the Court of Assizes of Naples, presided over by Judge Pasquale Cristiano, who fully accepted the request of the public prosecutor of the Prosecutor's Office of Naples North, Antonio Vergara. The reasons will be made known within ninety days.

The crime dates back to June 15, 2024. The two fratelli they were killed by gunshots in via Astragata, in Succivo, near the junction of the Nola-Villa Literno state road.

According to the reconstruction in the trial, Marco and Claudio Marrandino were on board their white BMW SUV when they crossed paths with Mangiacapre and an argument broke out between the three over traffic issues. The worker, in the throes of a fit of madness, grabbed a firearm and shot first at Claudio, who was driving, then at Marco, who had tried to escape.

A few meters from the scene there was a patrol of the Carabinieri who witnessed the incident and intervened immediately. Mangiacapre, however, also pointed his gun at the soldiers.

The patrol leader fired two shots without hitting him, and a chase ensued: the man managed to temporarily disappear, taking refuge at the Pineta Grande clinic in Castel Volturno, where he showed up claiming he had felt ill. There he was stopped and arrested.

The victims' families, represented by the civil lawyer Dario Carmine Procentese, supported by the criminal lawyer Luigi Poziello, are deeply grieved. "In a civilized country," said Procentese, "this was the only possible sentence. But nothing can bring back Claudio and Marco, my friends, especially Marco, a colleague and father. His children will grow up without him."
