Illegal car races: Two 18-year-olds reported in Cicciano, video on TikTok

CIcciano – Deafening roars, screeching tires, and screams in the quiet of the night: this is the alarm that has been worrying residents of the suburbs and province of Naples for months, where the phenomenon of illegal car racing is increasingly widespread among young people.

The latest incident, reported by residents to the Carabinieri of Cicciano, led to the filing of a complaint against two 18-year-olds with no criminal record for participating in an illegal race on Via Alveo Avella.

Not only do they disturb the peace, but they also pose a serious threat to public safety: these illegal competitions, often captured on videos that end up on social media, evoke the adrenaline rush of "Fast & Furious" movies. However, the reality is far from Hollywood fiction, and the consequences can be dramatic.

The night of July 2nd: the Cicciano case

In the dead of night on July 2nd, Via Alveo Avella in Cicciano was transformed into an improvised racetrack. Investigations conducted by the Carabinieri of the Cicciano station revealed that two young men, both eighteen years old, had challenged each other to a race in their respective cars.

The military operation led to the two "drivers" being reported for participating in unauthorized competitions. At the same time, law enforcement officials have launched investigations to determine whether other illegal races exist in the area and surrounding areas, a sign of a phenomenon that appears to be taking on worrying proportions.

A widespread danger among young people

Illegal races pose a huge risk not only to participants, but also to unsuspecting pedestrians and motorists. Excessive speed, lack of safety, and lack of enforcement make these "challenges" truly criminal acts that put human lives at risk.

The allure of adrenaline and the imitation of media models push many young people to ignore the consequences, fueling a phenomenon that requires greater prevention and repression.

Authorities urge citizens to continue to promptly report any suspicious activity, emphasizing the importance of collaboration to combat this dangerous trend and ensure greater road safety.

What do you think institutions and communities can do to effectively address the problem of illegal racing and raise awareness among young people about the risks?
