Heat emergency in Campania: toll-free numbers, digital maps and services for the most vulnerable

Share

Napoli – The heat wave that is hitting Campania has pushed local institutions to implement a network of interventions dedicated in particular to the most vulnerable segments of the population. From Naples to Salerno, municipalities, local health authorities and volunteer associations have activated toll-free numbers, reception centers, home assistance and digital maps of cool places, to deal with the extreme temperatures of these days.

A Napoli, the Municipality has brought forward the entry time to the Municipal First Reception Center to 14:30 p.m., thus offering early shelter from the heat. Three times a week, the “La Palma” center welcomes guests for the entire afternoon, with lunch and recreational activities. The mapping and restoration of the city's drinking fountains also continues.

Caritas is also active with the shower and changing room service at the Binario della Solidarietà, in via Taddeo da Sessa, while hot meals are guaranteed daily at the Carmine soup kitchen and other refreshment points.

Also important is the work of the Clenap association, which drew up the first map of the city's "climate shelters": there are around thirty of them and they include green spaces such as the Villa Floridiana, the Ventaglieri Park, the Villa Comunale and the gardens of the Royal Palace.

In Salerno, a hot emergency service has been activated with a dedicated toll-free number, operating 24 hours a day to collect reports of discomfort. The Local Health Authorities have also implemented specific measures: in particular, the Local Health Authority of Naples 24 has launched the “Estate Serena” plan, which includes a “hot” code in emergency rooms, a dedicated contact center, home care services and continuity of care.

The institutions' invitation is to promptly report cases of difficulty and to use the services activated to safely face the hottest days of summer.
