Napoli – Like a foretold storm, a storm has hit social media bufera of controversy following the farewell of Napoli's historic speaker, Daniele “Decibel” Bellini.
The blue club has in fact made official this afternoon the decision to entrust the management of entertainment at the Maradona Stadium to Golden Boys, the company of the brothers Gaetano and Emanuele "Geolie” Palumbo.
The decision, interpreted by many as an unceremonious dismissal of a key voice for the fans, sparked a wave of intense backlash. The Neapolitan rapper and his brother, the club's CEO, found themselves targeted by haters, as well as by simply disappointed fans.
Alongside harsh but constructive criticism, there was a veritable barrage of insults and accusations of having "supplanted" a piece of the club's history.
Geolier's reaction was swift. That evening, the singer took action with a lengthy statement posted on his Instagram page clarifying his position and that of his company.
“I am sorry to read words of hatred towards me and towards Golden Boys – the artist begins – regarding the will of the Napoli Calcio to relieve Decibel Bellini of his duties as speaker”.
Geolier would like to point out that the proposal has arrived “to Golden Boys, not to me personally”, and which consisted of the “management of the artistic direction of the matchday”, a task that the company has accepted “with great pleasure given my great friendship with the whole team.”
The heart of his defense lies in one crucial point: “The decisions made in recent days by Napoli Calcio have nothing to do with me or anyone who works with me.”
The rapper tries to cut short the rumours that paint him as the instigator of the change, concluding: “I see this issue has created a lot of confusion, so for the sake of clarity, I want to reiterate that the decision to relieve Decibel Bellini of his duties was made by Napoli Calcio, for reasons unrelated to Golden Boys.”
The press office that handles the artist's communication also intervened to reinforce the concept by issuing a further press release to specify that “The decision on this matter was taken independently and exclusively by SSC Napoli” and that it was not "in any way proposed neither by Golden Boys nor by Geolier".
La blue company, therefore, takes full responsibility for a decision that has deeply divided the fans, leaving Geolier and his entourage as easy scapegoats for a decision imposed from above. The affair demonstrates once again the visceral passion of Neapolitan fans and how any change, especially when it affects symbols, can ignite emotions in the virtual world and beyond.

It's truly strange how the situation has evolved, with so many people still unable to understand Napoli's decisions. I think it's important to give new talents a chance, not just established ones.
