Naples: Man fleeing police throws gun out window; arrested

Share

It was a busy morning on the streets of Naples, where a routine patrol turned into a chase that resulted in two arrests and the seizure of a firearm. Two Neapolitan citizens, aged 28 and 31, both already known to law enforcement, were arrested and charged with carrying a concealed weapon.

The suspect and the chase from Corso Lucci

It all began when a patrol car from the Office of General Prevention and Public Rescue, driving along Corso Arnaldo Lucci, noticed a car with two men inside. The couple's visibly nervous and wary behavior immediately aroused the officers' suspicions. Upon seeing the patrol car, the driver of the suspicious car stepped on the accelerator, in a clear attempt to evade detection and lose the officers.

A rapid chase ensued through city traffic, which ended a short distance away, on Via Amerigo Vespucci, where the police managed to catch up and finally stop the fleeing car.

The throwing of the weapon and the arrest

During the frantic escape, officers clearly observed the two men discarding an object, throwing it out the window of the moving car. Immediately recovered by officers, the object turned out to be an illegal pistol, unbranded and with the serial number removed to prevent its traceability. The weapon was ready for use: inside was a magazine containing six 6,35 mm rounds.

Faced with the evidence and the recovery of the weapon, the two fugitives were immediately arrested. They are now at the disposal of the judicial authorities.
