Naples – The quiet of the late evening in Naples was shattered by a violent explosion that shook the homes on Via Stadera. At number 35, unknown individuals planted and detonated a highly powerful homemade explosive device.

Carabinieri from the Poggioreale Company responded to the scene with sirens blaring, alerted by residents terrified by the sudden explosion. Fortunately, the street was deserted at the time of the explosion: there were no injuries, although the shock wave caused obvious damage to the road surface and an adjacent wall.

The shadow of Herculaneum and the investigations

The exact nature and dangerousness of the intimidation were revealed by surveys conducted overnight by the Carabinieri bomb squad. According to an initial technical reconstruction, the bomb was assembled by joining together 62 "Cobra" canisters.

A disturbing technical detail that brings to mind very recent news events: these are the same deadly illegal fires at the heart of the recent and dramatic explosion that occurred in Ercolano.

Now it's up to investigators to shed light on the origins of the incident. The Carabinieri are pursuing every lead, starting with the acquisition of video surveillance cameras in the area to reconstruct the dynamics of the attack. The goal is to understand to whom this clear and loud "message" was addressed and whether it was linked to racketeering or local criminal dynamics.
