Ascione murder: CGIL joins Libera Campania's assembly against the spread of weapons.

Naples—The CGIL Naples and Campania union will also participate in the public meeting promoted by Libera Campania following the murder of Fabio Ascione, the 20-year-old killed on the night of April 7th outside a bar in Ponticelli, while he was having breakfast before returning home after a night of work.

The meeting will be held tomorrow, Thursday, April 16, at 6:00 PM, at the "Ciro Colonna" multipurpose center in the eastern part of Naples. The initiative was born after yet another innocent victim was shot in a context of armed violence that continues to involve even very young people unrelated to criminal activity.

The position of the CGIL

The CGIL Naples and Campania announced its membership, noting that it is part of the "Disarming Naples" network, which brings together associations and movements committed to combating the spread of weapons in the city.

According to the union, the circulation of weapons, increasingly common among young people, represents one of the most serious emergencies in Naples. A spiral that, as in the case of Fabio Ascione, ends up overwhelming even innocent citizens, completely untouched by the criminal underworld.

The attack on the Government

The CGIL (Italian General Confederation of Labour) has taken a strong stance against the measures adopted by the government. "The measures enacted by this government, with the various Security and Caivano decrees," observes the CGIL (Naples and Campania), "are not only proving ineffective in both repressing and preventing these crimes, but are also making the city's streets increasingly dangerous and unsafe."

The union believes there is no concrete response to the real needs of the local community. "There is no concrete response to the real needs of a social fabric that demands an alternative to violence and the logic of crime. There are no solutions on the employment front; indeed, we continue to witness increasing industrial crises that risk only generating unemployment and new forms of poverty."

The work knot

In support of its analysis, the CGIL points to the dispute involving the 29 workers at the Harmont & Blaine plant in Caivano as a case in point. They received dismissal letters that were later withdrawn.
"Only thanks to the synergy between trade unions, the Region, and the Prefecture," the union concludes, "were the letters withdrawn, ensuring a social safety net plan until December 31st."
