Francesca Tucci
The Naples Public Prosecutor's Office is accelerating its investigation into the death of Francesca Tucci, the 23-year-old woman who died in the intensive care unit of Cardarelli Hospital after undergoing two surgeries. Next Tuesday, the experts appointed by the court will be assigned to perform the autopsy, a crucial investigation to reconstruct the cause of death and determine any liability.
Meanwhile, Deputy Prosecutor Mario Canale, of the "Work and Professional Misconduct" section, coordinated by Deputy Prosecutor Antonio Ricci, has placed three doctors under investigation. This is a necessary step that will allow the professionals involved to participate, with their own consultants, in the one-off technical assessment.
The charge is conspiracy to commit manslaughter. Among those under investigation is the surgeon who performed the surgery on the night of July 1st, the last operation the young woman underwent before her tragic end.
The autopsy will be the key step in the investigation. The experts appointed by the Prosecutor's Office will have to establish the exact cause of death and determine whether the death was due to unforeseeable complications or whether there were any indications of negligence, imprudence, or incompetence in the medical care provided.
The 23-year-old's family will also be closely monitoring the investigation. The relatives, assisted by lawyer Massimo Lanna, have already announced the appointment of independent technical consultants who will participate in the expert assessments.
The death of Francesca Tucci has deeply affected the city. The young woman had been admitted to Cardarelli Hospital, where she underwent an initial surgical procedure. Subsequently, due to the worsening of her medical condition, a second operation was required during the night between July 1st and 2nd. Despite doctors' efforts and her subsequent admission to intensive care, the 23-year-old died.
In recent days, the hospital management expressed its condolences to the family, assuring full cooperation with the judicial authorities to ascertain the facts.
The prosecutor's investigation will now clarify whether the death was caused solely by the evolution of the patient's clinical condition or whether there is any professional responsibility. The autopsy results, expected after the appointment scheduled for Tuesday, will provide the first technical evidence on which subsequent investigative assessments will be based.
