The accident in Sicignano degli Alburni
Salerno – A truck driver died this afternoon in an accident on the A2 Mediterranean motorway, near the Sicignano degli Alburni exit in the province of Salerno.
According to the fire department's initial reconstruction, the tractor-trailer lost control, struck the side of the road, and caught fire. On impact, part of the cab fell from the viaduct, while the rest of the vehicle overturned onto the road. The driver, whose identity is still being ascertained, was unable to recover.
Firefighters from the Eboli detachment responded to the scene, supported by a crane from the headquarters, 118 paramedics, and law enforcement.
Anas has temporarily closed the northbound carriageway at kilometer 55,200. To allow for rescue operations and the restoration of traffic, northbound traffic is being diverted with a mandatory exit at the Petina junction and re-entry onto the motorway at Campagna.
