Piano di Sorrento, two hikers lost among brambles and cliffs in the Lattari mountains: rescued thanks to the GeoResQ app.

Piano di Sorrento – A misadventure in the Lattari Mountains has ended happily for two hikers from Campania, who became stranded in a particularly rugged and overgrown area. Technology proved crucial to their safety: the alarm raised via smartphone allowed rescuers to locate them before darkness fell.

The two young men, both in their thirties and originally from Battipaglia and Scafati respectively, were hiking the CAI 300 trail in the municipality of Piano di Sorrento. While descending near Casanocillo, they lost the main trail and became trapped in a steep section covered by a thick barrier of brambles and shrubs, with no way to move forward or backtrack.

Having realized they could not continue on their own, the thirty-year-olds activated the emergency signal through the GeoResQ application, the platform managed by the National Alpine and Speleological Rescue Corps (CNSAS).

The call for help was immediately relayed to the Cassano Irpino operations center. Despite an initial phase in which voice contact was difficult due to poor network coverage, the center initiated the search protocol, mobilizing a team of technicians to the scene and alerting the local Carabinieri station.

Once the phone connection was restored, the coordinates provided by the devices allowed them to significantly narrow down the search radius. Reached after a complex journey through the woods, the two were secured: one of the hikers had minor abrasions from the brambles and was treated on site by responding personnel.

Both were eventually escorted back to their car, without the need for hospitalization.
