Naples, the 'Dream Room' opens at the CTO: a refuge of dignity for patients at the end of life.

In December 2025, the Naples CTO inaugurated an innovative end-of-life project: the 'Dream Room', a private and welcoming space designed to ensure dignity and serenity for patients in their final moments.

In this protected environment, far from the usual hospitalization and sub-intensive care areas, 23 people were able to receive personalized palliative care and, where required by law, appropriate palliative sedation.

The Emergency Medicine Unit, which promoted the initiative, conceived the room as a place where medical care blends with comfort and humanity. The lighting, furnishings, and the reduction of typical hospital elements create an intimate and familiar atmosphere, essential for caring for patients and supporting their families.

A refreshment area with tea, herbal teas, books, and a television is dedicated to the latter, offering practical support during their long stay.

Mario Guarino, director of the Complex Operating Unit, emphasizes the importance of recognizing the moment when caring means, above all, alleviating suffering and protecting dignity. "The Dream Room allows family members to stay close to their loved one in a private, calm, and protected environment," he says.

The project, which integrates medicine, art, and literature, draws inspiration from the book "The Concert of Fragile Destinies" by writer Maurizio de Giovanni. It also involved a class from the Savio Alfieri school in Naples-Secondigliano, who contributed by decorating the room with symbols from the story and the famous "The Little Prince."

Anna Iervolino, general director of the Colli Hospital, emphasizes that "humanizing care means not leaving people alone during the most difficult stages of illness" and that this healthcare model combines clinical expertise, attentive listening, and respect for the needs of patients and families.

“La Stanza dei Sogni” represents a significant step in the Colli Hospital's journey, placing the individual and their dignity at the center of care, even when medicine can no longer cure but continues to care.
