Naples is preparing to celebrate one of the most important anniversaries in its sporting history. On August 1st, the city will pay tribute to the 100th anniversary of SSC Napoli with "Napoli 100," a free, widespread event that will involve the city center in a major event combining football, culture, music, entertainment, and popular traditions.
The initiative, promoted by SSC Napoli together with the Campania Region and the Municipality of Naples, aims to showcase the deep bond that has united the club, the city, and its millions of fans around the world for a century.
The celebrations will begin at 7:26 PM in Piazza Carità, the site of the club's first headquarters. The day will officially begin with the ringing of the bells of one hundred city churches, accompanied by a spectacular Blue Smoke, symbolizing the start of the celebrations.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony will follow, attended by Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis, Campania Region President Roberto Fico, Naples Mayor Gaetano Manfredi, and other institutional officials.
The Blue Procession will set off from Piazza Carità, a procession about a kilometer long heading towards Piazza del Plebiscito, inspired by the tradition of popular processions in Campania.
The show will feature 100 actors, 100 musicians, and 100 children, who will take the audience on a journey through the myth of Partenope, the city's origins, its multicultural history, and the area's most representative traditions.
Popular masks, symbolic characters, beliefs, and references to Neapolitan culture will be accompanied by a soundtrack inspired by the songs that have made Naples famous throughout the world.
One of the main meeting points of the event will be Piazza Municipio, where the Centenary Pizza Village will be set up.
Starting at 8:26 PM, the club, along with its partners, will be offering thousands of free Margherita pizza slices and drinks. A portion of the pizzas will also be donated to vulnerable people thanks to a partnership with the Campania Food Bank.
Large screens and sound systems will allow the public to follow all stages of the event live.
The day's highlight is scheduled for 9:45 pm in Piazza del Plebiscito, where the official centenary ceremony will take place.
Taking turns on stage will be President De Laurentiis, institutional representatives, key figures in Napoli's history, and the evening's guests, in a story that will retrace the most significant moments of the club's first hundred years through images, music, testimonials, and artistic performances.
At the end of the ceremony, the Notte Azzurra will begin, with the simultaneous lighting of the city's main monuments.
The Royal Palace, Maschio Angioino, Palazzo San Giacomo, Castel dell'Ovo, and Castel Sant'Elmo will be illuminated in blue, transforming the Naples skyline into the symbolic backdrop of the Centenary.
The event will be accompanied by a grand light show and a synchronized fireworks display between Piazza del Plebiscito and Castel dell'Ovo, set to an original soundtrack dedicated to the club's history.
The long day of celebration will conclude with a DJ set created in collaboration with Radio Kiss Kiss, with which the city will salute the first century of SSC Napoli while already looking ahead to the next hundred years.
