Naples – Ferragosto in Naples doesn't mean a deserted city. On the contrary, on August 15th, the Campania capital prepares for one of the busiest days of the summer, with thousands of Italian and international tourists, visitors, and residents ready to pour into the city center streets, the waterfront, and the port areas.

From Piazza del Plebiscito to Piazza del Gesù, from Spaccanapoli to Via Toledo, and all the way to the seafront, the flow of people is expected to remain high throughout the day. This situation is also reflected in the ports, strategic points for departures to Capri, Ischia, Procida, and other destinations in the Gulf.

To deal with the extraordinary influx, the Naples Provincial Command of the Carabinieri has implemented enhanced territorial control, extending from the capital to the province's main tourist destinations.

Naples: Increased security in the historic center

In the capital, the Carabinieri will focus their attention primarily on areas with the highest population density.

Uniformed patrols, foot patrols, and dynamic checks will be deployed in the historic center and along the main tourist routes. The presence of military personnel on foot will allow them to reach even the most difficult-to-navigate streets and alleys, ensuring more thorough surveillance.

Particular attention will also be paid to port areas, where the August bank holiday coincides with a heavy flow of passengers heading to the islands.

The objective is twofold: to prevent potential predatory crimes and to intervene promptly in critical situations related to crowds.

Sorrento Peninsula, from the coast to the stations

The measure extends to the Sorrento Peninsula, where Ferragosto promises to be particularly crowded on beaches, historic centers, train stations, and mountain resorts.

In Sorrento, the Carabinieri will ensure a constant presence from early morning until late at night, with services in the streets and squares most frequented by tourists and residents.

The foot patrols will be joined by Carabinieri motorcyclists, deployed along the peninsula and on the connections between Sorrento, Meta, and other coastal towns. This arrangement is designed to ensure rapid response and greater flexibility in traffic controls.

Beaches, car parks and stations targeted for prevention

Particular attention will be paid to seaside resorts, especially between Meta and Vico Equense.

The Carabinieri will be present with patrols in uniform and plain clothes not only on the beaches, but also near parking lots, train stations, and docks, considered sensitive areas during peak tourist season.

Prevention will focus primarily on theft, damage, and other predatory crimes, with the aim of intercepting any illegal situations before they can turn into emergencies.

Mount Faito: Maximum attention to fires

The Ferragosto program will also include Monte Faito, a popular destination for many visitors who want to spend the day away from the coast.

In this case, alongside personal safety, protecting forests is particularly important. Inspections will focus on fire prevention and compliance with regulations in green and mountain areas.

Particular attention is being paid to the lighting of fires and unauthorized barbecues. These practices, when temperatures are high and large crowds are present, can pose a significant risk to the environment and public safety.

Capri, special device for tourist assault

Maximum attention must also be paid to Capri, where Ferragosto represents one of the periods of greatest tourist pressure of the entire year.

The island, characterized by limited space and a unique urban and environmental structure, will have to deal with a number of visitors vastly exceeding its resident population.

For this reason, the Carabinieri's deployment was tailored to the characteristics of the territory, with the aim of ensuring safety without compromising the island's mobility.

The Carabinieri inflatable boat CC402 will be in operation at sea, engaged in controlling recreational boat traffic and keeping watch over the numerous swimmers.

On land, the military will patrol the port and historic center, including using electric vehicles and pedal-assisted bicycles, which are particularly useful for navigating crowds and quickly reaching areas that are difficult to access using traditional transportation.

From the Piazzetta to the Gardens of Augustus

Foot services will be provided in the most popular and iconic areas of the island, from the Piazzetta to the Gardens of Augustus.

In Anacapri, the Carabinieri's electric bicycles will also be in operation, while throughout the island, prevention and control services will be adjusted based on the number of people present.

A dynamic presence, therefore, ready to increase or decrease its intensity based on visitor flows and security needs.

A network of controls from Naples to the islands

The plan, set up by the Provincial Carabinieri Command, aims to cover the entire area affected by the large influxes of people on August 15th.

From the squares of Naples to the beaches of the Sorrento Peninsula, from ports to train stations, from the seafront to the mountainous areas of Monte Faito, all the way to the island of Capri, the Carabinieri deploy foot patrols, motorcyclists, uniformed and plainclothes soldiers, electric bicycles, and a boat for sea patrols.

A predominantly preventative strategy, aimed not only at combating potential criminal activity but also at ensuring a constant and reassuring presence in one of the areas of Campania most affected by national and international tourism.

The message for Ferragosto is therefore clear: a holiday to be celebrated in safety, protecting residents, workers, and the thousands of tourists who have chosen Naples and its province to spend August 15th.
