August Tragedy: Man Kills Wife, Then Attempts Suicide

A mid-August afternoon marked by tragedy in the Sannio region. In Sant'Angelo a Cupolo, a small town in the province of Benevento, a 75-year-old man stabbed his wife to death, then attempted to take his own life with the same knife. The tragic incident occurred inside the family home, when the couple was alone.

The dynamics of the aggression

According to investigators' initial reconstruction, the tragedy occurred during a violent argument. The elderly man grabbed a kitchen knife and lunged at the woman, who died instantly. Rescuers found her lifeless body lying on the living room couch. Immediately after the attack, the 75-year-old turned the knife on himself in an attempt to end it.

Rescue and clinical picture

By the time 118 paramedics arrived, there was nothing more that could be done for the woman. The man, found in critical condition, was rushed to Benevento Hospital, where he remains hospitalized in critical condition. Initial reports emerging in the hours following the crime suggest the 75-year-old was experiencing severe mental and physical distress, to the point that he had recently undergone a specialist examination.

Carabinieri officers from the local unit arrived at the crime scene to conduct forensic examinations and begin investigations aimed at clarifying the exact sequence of events.
