Capodimonte (Viterbo) — A sudden and tragic death has struck the small community of Capodimonte, in the province of Viterbo. Rachele Ferrara, a 28-year-old mother of two, died during the night between Tuesday and Wednesday after six days in intensive care at Santa Rosa Hospital. The young woman had choked on a slice of bacon on August 13th.
According to initial reports, the girl left her home and called for help in the street while choking. Emergency personnel arrived immediately and made lengthy attempts to resuscitate her, including using the Heimlich maneuver, the first aid technique used to clear the airways of foreign bodies.
Despite efforts, Rachele's condition remained critical. Transported by air ambulance to Santa Rosa Hospital in Viterbo, she was declared brain dead overnight. Her family has consented to organ donation, a gesture of solidarity that could save more lives.
The case highlights the importance of knowing how to clear a choking hazard, especially when the victim is conscious but unable to cough or breathe.
