The Ischia State Police arrested a 19-year-old man who attempted to defraud an elderly woman by pretending to be a Carabinieri officer.

Ischia, a scam targeting an elderly woman foiled: a 19-year-old arrested for posing as a police officer.
Timely intervention by the State Police prevented a scam targeting an elderly woman in the municipality of Ischia. The incident occurred yesterday morning, when officers at the local police station were alerted by a report of an attempted scam.
The victim, an elderly man, had been contacted by a stranger who introduced himself as a member of the Carabinieri. The scammer, speaking on speakerphone to the family members present, announced that a colleague was arriving to check the jewelry and banknotes at the home.
Shortly thereafter, a 19-year-old man, already known to law enforcement for similar crimes, showed up at the door. Officers, who quickly arrived on the scene, managed to subdue him, not without difficulty, and arrested him on charges of aggravated fraud and resisting a public officer.
The incident highlights the importance of vigilance and a swift response from law enforcement in combating increasingly sophisticated fraud schemes, often targeting vulnerable people such as the elderly.
