During the holiday of Ferragosto, law enforcement agencies in Naples and the surrounding province intensified security checks, with a massive deployment of resources involving approximately 1.450 officers, including police, Carabinieri, Guardia di Finanza, Metropolitan Police, and the Port Authority. These extraordinary measures, decided by the Committee for Public Order and Security chaired by Prefect Michele di Bari, focused particularly on holiday resorts and major gathering places.
During the operations, nearly 5.000 people and over 2.100 vehicles were checked, resulting in 316 administrative fines. Furthermore, 13 arrests were made and 52 criminal charges were filed. The checks also focused on combating drug trafficking, with the seizure of several drugs and the reporting of 13 people for possession for personal use.
In the fight against illegal trade, 858 counterfeit items and 10 kilos of mussels sold without authorization were seized, with four people reported. The surveillance activity also involved 56 businesses, nine of which were fined for employing illegal workers and 39 for tax irregularities.
There was no shortage of checks at sea and along the coast, where authorities inspected 52 vessels and reported 67 violations of the navigation code.
