Over a ton of frozen red shrimp seized in Pozzuoli without documentation.

In the port of Pozzuoli, during the night between August 11 and 12, 2026, the Coast Guard seized over a ton of frozen red shrimp aboard an Italian fishing vessel. The fish, approximately 1.104 kilograms, was found to be completely lacking the required documentation certifying its origin, provenance, and traceability.

The operation was the result of a thorough inspection coordinated by the Port Authority of Naples and conducted with the support of the Pozzuoli Maritime District Office. Monitoring began after anomalies in the fishing vessel's routes were detected using the integrated digital surveillance systems managed by the Coast Guard.

The investigations revealed that the red shrimp had not been caught by the inspected vessel, nor did it appear to have been transshipped from another vessel, thus violating the rules on fish supply chain traceability. In addition to the product seizure, five pieces of trap-type fishing gear unauthorized for the vessel's operations were confiscated.

Further investigations into navigation and compliance with safety certifications are underway, while the Coast Guard evaluates the administrative and criminal measures resulting from the case.
