Naples – Vincenzo Caiazzo, a prominent figure in Neapolitan organized crime, has been released from prison and moved to a therapeutic community. He is being held in a lighter prison sentence. Investigators from the District Anti-Mafia Directorate (DDA) have identified him as a high-ranking member of the Licciardi clan, specifically the Don Guanella district operative group.
The investigating judge of the Court of Naples has in fact lifted the reservation by accepting the request presented by the boss's defense attorneys, Luigi Senese and Lucia Boscaino, authorizing the transfer to protected house arrest.
For years, the Anti-Mafia Office has been at the centre of its investigative radar, in Caiazzo (also known in criminal circles as “Capuzzella”), where the Prosecutor's Office has charged, on various counts, with high-level crimes in the criminal architecture of the northern area of Naples.
Among these are mafia-style criminal association, participation in international and local drug trafficking managed under the aegis of the Secondigliano Alliance confederation, as well as a series of crimes aggravated by mafia methods and purposes.
The boss's recent judicial career has been marked by particularly complex procedural developments. The investigation that overwhelmed him began with the bloody aftermath surrounding the murder of Domenico Gargiulo, alias "Sicc e Penniell," whose body was found in the trunk of a car on September 8, 2019.
A crime initially framed as part of a feud and which had pushed investigators to tighten the ring around the Rione Don Guanella joint.
However, thanks to the work of the defense team—primarily that of attorney Luigi Senese—the judicial storm surrounding Caiazzo began to unravel before the Court of Review, where the 48-year-old managed to have the serious charge of complicity in the Gargiulo murder and the charge of conspiracy to commit drug trafficking overturned.
Despite the complex web of accusations, the boss's position has undergone further reshaping: in the summer of 2026, as part of the main proceedings against the Masseria Cardone management, Caiazzo was sentenced in the first instance to 9 years and 4 months in prison (against a slightly higher request from the prosecution), while also receiving a significant acquittal on individual charges.
Today, following the preliminary investigations judge's order, the doors of a treatment facility open for the boss: a different precautionary measure that balances precautionary requirements with the therapeutic path established by his lawyers.
