Donnaregina reopens with "Metamorphosis – What Remains Becomes Music"

The Museo Diocesano Diffuso (MUDD) is expanding its exhibition with "Metamorfosi – Quello che resta diventa musica," marking the reopening of the Church of Donnaregina Nuova and its connection with Donnaregina Vecchia, creating a single hub for visual, social, and audio exhibitions and reflections.

The inauguration is scheduled for Thursday, September 17, 2026, at 6:30 PM in Largo Donnaregina in Naples. The project, conceived by the Casa dello Spirito e delle Arti Foundation, will take the form of an exhibition curated by Maria Savarese and Marina Gargiulo. The initiative is part of the Donnaregina Foundation's Project XXI for Contemporary Arts, in collaboration with the Fondazione Napoli C'entro ETS, and as part of the "Museo Madre" initiative – FSC 2021-2027 Programming of the Campania Region.

The inauguration will be attended by Archbishop Mimmo Battaglia of Naples, Regional Councilor for Culture Ninni Cutaia, Prefect Michele Di Bari of Naples, Mayor Gaetano Manfredi, Arnoldo Mosca Mondadori, President of the Casa dello Spirito e delle Arti Foundation, and Angela Tecce, President of the Donnaregina–Madre Foundation. Vincenzo Porzio, Director of the Napoli C'entro Foundation, will moderate the event.

The evening will continue with a musical performance by the Tornaccantà Orchestra, which will complement the exhibition's narrative with live music: instruments crafted in the Secondigliano workshops will resonate throughout the complex. Following the inauguration, it will be possible to tour the Donnaregina complex free of charge, accompanied by young people from the La Sorte Cooperative, who are involved in welcoming visitors and narrating the MUDD.

Starting September 18th, the churches of Donnaregina Nuova and Donnaregina Vecchia will be open to visitors free of charge every day, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. The exhibition builds a bridge between ancient and contemporary, with works and installations that engage with the identity of the places to tell, through different languages, stories of migration, marginalization, and rebirth.
