Naples, 1.630 agents deployed for the America's Cup

Naples, September 22. The Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, chaired a meeting of the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Safety this morning, with the aim of reviewing the issues related to the upcoming sporting event and urban decorum.

The meeting, attended by law enforcement officials and municipal representatives, focused on planning security measures for the preliminary regattas of the 38th America's Cup, scheduled for September 24-27 in Naples. The meeting included specific operational and logistical support measures to assist athletes, residents, and visitors.

For the field operation, it has been established that from 22 to 27 September a total of 1.630 men from the three police forces will be employed, distributed as follows: 22 September – 140, 23 September – 120, 24 September – 350, 25 September – 350, 26 September – 350, 27 September – 320.

The Committee also focused on public order and decorum on Via Petrarca, in the Posillipo neighborhood, where incidents of public disturbance, urban disorder, fights, and violent behavior have occurred on weekends. The Prefect assured that law enforcement remains extremely vigilant and that joint prevention and enforcement efforts will be intensified, with the support of the local police and the Metropolitan Police, to restore decorum to the area and ensure tranquility for residents and tourists.

A technical committee has also been established at the Prefecture, involving all relevant institutional stakeholders, to evaluate the adoption of more restrictive measures than regional regulations regarding the hours of alcohol service and sale on weekends.

Finally, the tragic road accident that resulted in the death of a young motorcyclist in Ischia in the early hours of September 20th was addressed. The Prefect recalled the circulars issued to the mayors of the metropolitan area regarding the use of speed detection devices and the provisions of the Road Accident Observatory established at the Prefecture. Increased surveillance and control services were ordered across the entire island, particularly in the Lacco Ameno and Ischia area, by local police forces with the assistance of the Metropolitan Police and the intervention of the Highway Police.

A further meeting of the Road Accident Observatory is scheduled for the next few days at the Prefecture to further explore the issue of road speed detection devices.
