America's Cup 2027 opportunities for students
Naples is preparing to welcome not only the boats, but also the procedures that regulate their arrival. Tomorrow, in the Sala delle Grida of the Naples Chamber of Commerce, the Customs and Monopolies Agency (ADM) will officially present the customs simplifications and tax breaks designed for the nautical sector in preparation for the 38th America's Cup, scheduled to take place in the Campania capital in July 2027.
The measures aren't new on paper: they've already been implemented these days, during the Louis Vuitton Preliminary Regatta, held in the Gulf of Naples from September 24th to 27th, the first major organizational test for next year's event. Nine AC40 boats from leading international teams have already arrived in the city, hosted in Nisida, for this second leg of the "Road to Naples" series, following the Cagliari regatta last May.
Tomorrow's meeting will serve to explain to operators, businesses, and stakeholders in the nautical sector the measures implemented to facilitate the entry and movement of goods, sports equipment, boats, and materials intended for competition. The stated objective is twofold: to ensure the smooth flow of legitimate international traffic without compromising security and controls.
The simplifications agreed upon between the Government and the ADM are collected in a guide dedicated to America's Cup teams, already available on the Agency's institutional website in Italian and English, designed as an operational tool for those managing the logistics of the competing teams.
The event will be attended by prominent institutional figures: Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance Maurizio Leo, Undersecretary of State Sandra Savino, President of the Campania Region Roberto Fico, Prefect of Naples Michele di Bari, Mayor Gaetano Manfredi, and President of the Naples Chamber of Commerce Ciro Fiola.
Roberto Alesse, Director of the Customs and Monopolies Agency, and Maria Alessandra Santillo, Regional Director for Campania, will provide a detailed explanation of the technical measures. They will explain how ADM intends to balance the simplification of legitimate traffic with the protection of the European Union's financial interests and the fight against fraud.
The event will also have a less visible but equally important aspect: preventing crimes associated with a global event like the America's Cup, from trademark counterfeiting to the manipulation of sports competitions. ADM's Anti-Fraud Department, led by Director Sergio Gallo, will intervene on this front, a sign that the authorities' focus is not limited to logistics but also aims to secure the integrity of the event itself.
