An elderly woman unmasks a fake marshal and calls 112. A 39-year-old man from Naples has been reported.

Turin – She realized something wasn't right and, while the scam was still underway, called 112. The quick thinking of an elderly woman living on the Turin hills allowed the Carabinieri to intervene at her home just as she was handing over her gold to one of the alleged scammers.

A 39-year-old man, resident in Naples, was charged with attempted fraud. The scam followed the "fake marshal" scheme: over the phone, a man, introducing himself as a member of the Carabinieri, told her that his home would be searched imminently to determine the origin of the gold in her possession.

Suspicious of certain details in the phone call, the woman contacted 112. Carabinieri from the Pino Torinese station and the Company's operational unit intervened while the scam was still underway. The officers arrested the 39-year-old before he could escape: he still had the gold he had just handed over in a bag. The valuables were returned in full to the owner.

A similar episode occurred in mid-July in the Chieri area and led to two men being reported.
