Vico Equense – The stretch of coast between Capo La Gala and Lo Scrajo, along the State Road 145 Sorrentina in Vico Equense, is the focus of a report comparing the past with the present. On one hand, there are historical photographs, which convey the image of a rugged, natural cliff, characterized by small openings leading to the sea and minimal interventions integrated into the landscape. On the other, there are recent shots, captured near a lookout point on the state road, which show a paved surface and equipped areas near the cliff, markedly different from years past.

The complaint: closed paths and changes to the cliff

According to the report sent to Green-Left MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli, between the 1970s and 1980s, that stretch of coast was accessible by sea or via a small pedestrian path. Subsequently, according to residents' testimonies, the passage was blocked by a metal fence, while a portion of the cliff underwent structural modifications to allow for a new use of the area.

Borrelli's position: "Shed light on authorizations and concessions."

The matter now requires rigorous documentary evidence to ascertain the nature of the interventions, their dating, and administrative compliance. MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli intervened directly on the matter, emphasizing the need for transparency:
"The photographs reveal a transformation of the coastal landscape that deserves further investigation," Borrelli states. "We don't intend to attribute responsibility based on a report or a few images, but we ask that an investigation be conducted into what was done on that stretch of coast and on what authorizations. If proper permits exist, it's right that this be clarified. If irregularities are discovered, action should be taken."

The case occurs within a delicate regulatory and administrative context involving local authorities and the management of state-owned maritime property. The Municipality of Vico Equense—which has a dedicated department for authorizations, concessions, and inspections of state-owned areas and which adopted the 2026 Implementation Plan for the Use of State-owned Maritime Areas—is called upon, along with other competent authorities, to examine the land registry and historical records. The objective is to verify ownership of the space, the legitimacy of the existing works, and compliance with the landscape protection requirements of one of the most picturesque stretches of the Sorrento Peninsula.
