Scams targeting elderly people and a priest: Neapolitan couple stopped on the A2

Salerno – A 38-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman, both Italian and resident in Naples, have been reported by the State Police for a series of scams targeting elderly people and an attempted cyber fraud targeting a priest.

The two, who already had specific criminal records, were stopped by traffic police officers in Sala Consilina while traveling on the A2 Mediterranean motorway in a car coming from Reggio Calabria.

Jewelry and cash in the vehicle

During the check, conducted after a report of a suspicious vehicle, officers searched the car and found gold jewelry and a thousand euros in cash in the couple's possession. Investigators believe the money was the proceeds of scams carried out in the previous hours targeting elderly people.

The attempted defrauding of the priest

In addition to scamming the elderly, the two are jointly accused of attempting to commit cyber fraud against a priest. The victim was allegedly tricked into making wire transfers amounting to thousands of euros, but the transaction was prevented by the intervention of the bank's anti-fraud system.

The two suspects are charged with ongoing and aggravated fraud against elderly people and attempted computer fraud. Investigations are ongoing to reconstruct the entire fraud case and identify any additional victims.
