Two men were charged with conspiracy to defraud in the Caserta area after collecting €1.600 from two women by promising them a car rental that was never delivered.

A €1.600 scam in the Caserta area: two people reported for pretending to rent a Europcar car.
In the Caserta area, the Roccamonfina Carabinieri Station filed two verbal reports for conspiracy to commit fraud. According to the investigation, two men, aged 59 and 37, from the province of Naples and residing in the Caserta area, allegedly acted together without handing over any vehicles.
The investigations describe a modus operandi in which the two men posed as agents of a well-known car rental company, posing as Europcar employees. They allegedly contacted two women, offering to rent a car. The victims, convinced of the offer's legitimacy, allegedly wired €1.600 in exchange for the promised service.
Once the payment was received, however, the car was not delivered. Following the failure to deliver, the women filed a complaint, and the Carabinieri launched a specific investigation that led to the identification of the two alleged perpetrators.
Following the investigation, both were reported to the judicial authorities at liberty on suspicion of conspiracy to commit fraud. Further investigations will be entrusted to the competent judicial authorities.
The case is part of a broader scam involving false commercial offers and car rental services, which exploit the references of real companies to make the offer seem credible. The Carabinieri remind people to always verify the identity of the person they are contacting and the existence of the offer through the company's official channels before proceeding with payment.
The full responsibility of the accused will be ascertained during the proceedings, respecting the presumption of innocence.
