Rozay cannabis seized
Acerra - Forget the old image of marijuana being secretly consumed in dark city corners, associated with degradation or street crime. Today, the illegal drug market is increasingly modeled after American dispensaries, evoking luxury, aesthetics, and high-end botanical collectibles.
The perfect example of this metamorphosis is "Rozay," an award-winning hybrid strain that's conquering the international market. With its pink-purple hues and an aromatic profile reminiscent of blueberry champagne and rosé wine, this strain demonstrates how cannabis is undergoing a veritable "gentrification," now positioning itself on a par with a vintage wine or a niche perfume.
The latest operation conducted by the Carabinieri of the Acerra Station and the Castello di Cisterna Company demonstrates how this global phenomenon has now taken root in the Neapolitan hinterland. During a special patrol operation conducted late this evening, officers arrested a 22-year-old local man, caught with a large quantity of designer drugs and a firearm.
Laboratory analyses will now confirm the exact chemical composition of the products, but one thing is clear: drug marketing is now heavily focused on eye-catching packaging and pop culture aesthetics. During the house search, the Carabinieri seized a total of 739,6 grams of narcotics: 403,5 grams of marijuana (divided into 58 doses and two packages), 335,5 grams of hashish (in 41 doses and two blocks), and 0,6 grams of cocaine.
Investigators were particularly struck by the packaging. There were no plain or unrefined packages: the narcotic was placed in colorful bags with a distinct and recognizable visual identity. Among these, several pink packages bearing the wording "ROZAY" stood out. Besides being the famous pseudonym of American rapper Rick Ross, Rozay is now one of the most sought-after and photographed cannabis strains in the world: a carefully crafted genetic cross that fuses hip-hop culture and the cannabis industry into a single, profitable global brand.
Other seized bags featured fruit-inspired graphics, concepts of "freshness," and even images of $50 bills. A veritable commercial redesign that recalls the codes of large companies and, leveraging word of mouth among customers, makes the product instantly recognizable on the market.
In addition to the drug sample, a 7,65 caliber Browning pistol was found inside the house, the provenance of which is still under investigation, along with eight bullets of the same caliber and a 9mm Luger round.
During the search, the young man attempted to resist intervention by lunging at the Carabinieri, cursing, and pushing them. The attack resulted in no injuries, and the 22-year-old was arrested and transferred to the relevant prison. He will face charges of possession of narcotics with intent to sell and illegal possession of weapons and ammunition.
The operation is part of a broader crime prevention and repression effort that saw the Carabinieri comb the streets of Acerra. A total of 85 people were identified (12 of whom were already known to law enforcement) and 57 vehicles were checked.
The operation also led to 6 people being reported to the Prefecture as drug users, with the simultaneous seizure of 16,4 grams of hashish, 3,3 grams of cocaine and 0,4 grams of crack.
Five women were charged with aggravated electricity theft: with the support of Enel technicians, the police discovered illegal connections to the public grid inside several homes on Via Matteotti.
