Naples, terror on Corso Umberto: tourist robbed and injured
The quiet of the city's high society was shattered in an instant, amid the screams of passersby and blood on the asphalt. It's a war bulletin coming from the beating heart of Naples, where petty crime has once again struck in broad daylight.
The victim of the raid was a tourist, knocked unconscious with a severe head injury after being brutally grabbed and robbed of her gold necklace on Corso Umberto I. A lightning-fast ambush, yet another coup by the "professional snatchers" who no longer spare anyone, turning a stroll downtown into a nightmare.
The state's response, however, was swift. Faced with repeated incidents exposing the vulnerability of the most crowded areas, the prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, took a heavy-handed approach: zero tolerance and an immediate, massive redeployment of patrols across the territory.
The directives from local government leaders are clear: secure the main tourist and pedestrian thoroughfares. The goal is clear and urgent: regain control of the road, ensuring a visible and constant safety framework for residents and visitors.
But the crackdown doesn't end with today's emergency. The Corso Umberto I incident is set to shape the agenda of the next Provincial Committee for Public Order and Safety, urgently convened for October 20th. At that meeting, the findings will be reviewed and strategies to combat the scourge of predatory crimes will be redefined.
