The seized gun
Naples – An unserialized pistol and 26 bullets were found in a meter cabinet in Piazzetta San Vincenzo. A 50-year-old convicted felon was arrested: hashish and €625 in cash were found in his home.
The neighborhood remains under close observation in the delicate moment marked by the statements of the repentant Carmine Grosso, who is reconstructing in front of the investigators of the Naples DDA the new structures, alliances and protagonists of organized crime.
The Carabinieri presence in the Sanità district is becoming increasingly widespread. This constant surveillance of the area takes on particular significance given the ongoing tensions affecting the neighborhood, according to the investigative framework, and the information emerging from the statements of justice collaborator Carmine Grosso.
It is within this context that the high-impact operation carried out by the Carabinieri of the Stella Company took place, engaged in a vast territorial patrol. This operation led to the identification of 193 people, the inspection of 96 vehicles, and the issuing of 26 traffic violations.
But the most significant data comes from weapons and drugs.
During searches of the neighborhood's common areas, in Piazzetta San Vincenzo, the officers discovered an unserialized pistol inside a telephone meter compartment, along with 26 bullets.
This discovery highlights the availability of weapons in the neighborhood. The gun will now undergo ballistic tests to determine whether it was used in previous crimes, shootings, intimidation, or other criminal incidents.
It will be precisely the comparison with any evidence collected at the scenes of other crimes that will provide investigators with useful elements to reconstruct the history of the weapon and understand whether it could have been used in one of the still unsolved violent episodes.
During the same operation, Antonio Sollami, 50 years old, already known to the police, was arrested.
In his home, the Carabinieri found a block and four packets of hashish, as well as six homemade cigarettes containing tobacco and hashish. They also seized €625 in cash, which investigators believe to be the proceeds of the illegal activity.
Following the investigation, the 50-year-old was arrested and placed under house arrest, pending trial.
This comprehensive surveillance of the area comes at a particularly delicate time for the Sanità district. The statements of Carmine Grosso, a collaborator with justice, are offering investigators from the Naples Antimafia Directorate (DDA) a developing picture of the neighborhood's criminal structures.
The informer is reportedly reconstructing roles and hierarchies, naming bosses, drug dealing ring managers, alleged killers, and individuals believed to be involved in ambushes and extortion, as well as identifying the new recruits in organized crime and the alliances emerging across the country.
A picture that, if confirmed by further investigative evidence, could help shed light on the new balance of power within the neighborhood.
And it's precisely the potential reorganization of the criminal justice system that makes this moment particularly delicate. When the structure changes, the risk of conflicts over control of illicit activities, from drug dealing centers to extortion, increases.
For this reason, law enforcement is maintaining a high level of vigilance on the health system, intensifying control services and their presence on the streets of the neighborhood.
The discovery of the gun does not, at this time, mean that it is directly linked to Grosso's statements or to the criminal dynamics under investigation. Ballistic tests and subsequent investigative checks will determine this.
But the discovery of a clandestine pistol, with 26 bullets hidden in a common area of the neighborhood, represents an element that investigators cannot ignore at a time when new hierarchies, alliances, and availability of men and weapons within the Sanità crime syndicate are being reconstructed.
The investigators' work continues on two fronts: on the one hand, immediate surveillance of the area, and on the other, verification of the collaborator's statements through cross-checks, wiretaps, seizures, and investigations into the crimes.
