Salvatore Calignano
A candlelight vigil to remember Salvatore Calignano and bring workplace safety back to the forefront. On Saturday afternoon, Orta di Atella, in the Caserta area, will gather around the family of the 61-year-old worker who died on October 3rd at the Giugliano hospital in Campania after falling from a height of eight meters while working on a warehouse in Caivano.
According to the reconstruction, Calignano worked illegally and without adequate accident prevention measures. His death has refocused attention on safety conditions on construction sites and the responsibilities of those who employ workers without the necessary protections.
For the incident, the employer was placed under house arrest on charges of manslaughter and wilful failure to take accident precautions. Liability will be determined by the appropriate judicial authorities.
The event was organized by the "Le sentinelle del territorio" group with a twofold objective: to pay homage to the worker's memory and to raise awareness among citizens and institutions about the need to prevent accidents at work.
The procession is expected to include mayors and representatives of neighboring municipalities, including Gricignano di Aversa, Succivo, Caivano, and Cesa, in an initiative aimed at involving the entire area.
The gathering is scheduled for 3:00 PM in Piazza Municipio. The procession is scheduled to depart at 5:00 PM, arriving near the Calignano family's home.
The torchlight procession aims to transform the memory of the victim into a moment of collective commitment, ensuring that safety is not considered a secondary detail and that no worker is forced to risk their lives to carry out their job.
