Fake Carabiniere scam in Macerata: Elderly woman robbed of €10 worth of jewelry: Two Neapolitans reported

They allegedly posed as members of the Carabinieri to gain the trust of a 68-year-old woman and convince her to hand over her gold jewelry, estimated to be worth approximately €10. A 36-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman, both residents of the Naples area, have been charged with the alleged scam, which took place in Montefano, in the province of Macerata.

The scam dates back to October 6th. According to the Carabinieri, the victim was contacted by telephone by people posing as military personnel, claiming to need to check some valuables stored in her home.

The pretext used was to compare the jewels with the stolen goods from a burglary committed elsewhere. A story constructed to persuade the woman to trust him and make her valuables available.

Shortly thereafter, the 29-year-old allegedly showed up at the pensioner's home and managed to secure several gold jewelry pieces. Once she had the items, she fled, disappearing into the nearby streets.

The investigation was conducted by the Carabinieri of the Montefano station, who reconstructed the scam's details and identified the two alleged perpetrators. Following the investigation, both were charged at liberty.

The incident draws attention to scams targeting the elderly, in which criminals exploit the name and authority of law enforcement to obtain money and valuables.
