In Naples, the Galleria Umberto I is destroyed: monumental stairs destroyed

In the Galleria Umberto I in Naples, degradation and shame are now regular guests and nothing seems surprising anymore.

As documented by the deputy of the Green-Left alliance Francesco Emilio Borrelli, who for years has denounced the degradation and mismanagement of what is the most symbolic monument in Naples, the monumental entrance stairs of the gallery have been partially destroyed and the torn-up areas have been "signalled" with barriers and iron spikes that are completely rusty and protrude in a dangerous manner.

“Unfortunately, yet another disgrace is taking place in the gallery. A very bad impression on visitors from all over the world, in addition to being a very dangerous thing, given that those rusty irons could hurt someone, especially children. We have therefore asked the Municipality and the Superintendency to intervene and remedy the situation. But do we want to protect and enhance this gallery or not?” - declared Borrelli, who made an inspection on site.
