Pompeii, the level crossing on Via Crapolla will be eliminated

The level crossing on Via Crapolla in Pompei on the Circumvesuviana line will be removed after a bathtub and a refrigerator were abandoned in that area in recent days.

A 24-hour security guard will be in place. This emerged from a meeting held this morning at the Prefecture in Naples, attended by Umberto De Gregorio, president of Eav, the public transport company of the Campania Region that manages, among other things, the former Circumvesuviana lines, and the mayor of Pompeii Carmine Lo Sapio.

De Gregorio assured the prefect of "maximum attention on the issue" and promised to "strengthen the use of security guards on the affected stretch".

He also stressed that "the elimination of the level crossing on Via Crapolla has been planned for some time in agreement with the Municipality of Pompeii. Perhaps someone does not agree and is using Camorra or terrorist methods to intimidate us. A useless attempt".

The Municipality of Pompei has decided to eliminate four level crossings, as provided for by a resolution of the Municipal Council led by Lo Sapio. The level crossings of via Nolana, via Fucci, via Crapolla I and II will be eliminated.

According to a note from Eav, “the objective of eliminating level crossings on the railway network has become a central element of the planning of restructuring works by Eav, which is providing for the construction of replacement works, such as underpasses”.

As for the level crossing where criminal episodes occurred, the Municipality of Pompeii and Eav will accelerate the closure, transforming the level crossing from public to private. In the meantime, a 24-hour security guard has been provided and a reinforced control on that specific stretch of line with several security guards.

It emerged during the meeting that Eav invests a lot in security, employing 90 dedicated employees and 90 external security guards, for a cost of over 4 million euros, equal to 2% of its turnover. There are over 4 thousand cameras and the collaboration with the police is always maximum and profitable.
