Pompeii – Hundreds of people lined up since the early hours of the morning for the ribbon-cutting ceremony of an opening that takes on symbolic significance on a global scale. Primark officially inaugurated its new store inside the "La Cartiera" shopping center in Pompeii.
This isn't just a simple expansion into the Campania region: the Pompeii location represents the international fashion giant's 500th store worldwide, as well as the 22nd opened in Italy.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by the mayor of Pompeii, Giuseppe Tortora, and the brand's global CEO, Eoin Tonge, demonstrating the importance of the event to the Irish group's strategy.
The Pompeii operation involved a total investment of 8 million euros in the region, with a direct impact on local employment thanks to the hiring of 150 sales and operational staff.
"The opening represents an important sign of trust and interest in our area," emphasized Mayor Giuseppe Tortora.
"The figure I consider most significant is the employment one: 150 new jobs mean new opportunities for many families. Pompeii will continue to do its part to be an efficient city, ready to welcome virtuous private investments while fully respecting the community."
Katrin Berling, Center Manager at La Cartiera, agreed, calling the achievement "an important step in the facility's enhancement process, confirming our center's strong appeal to major international brands."
The store occupies a single level with a retail space of 3.160 square meters. It houses the fashion, lifestyle, beauty, and home accessories collections, with a section entirely dedicated to back-to-school items.
In terms of the shopping experience and inclusivity, the facility is equipped with 18 checkouts (10 of which are self-service) and 14 fitting rooms, including spaces reserved for customers with disabilities and families.
The opening at La Cartiera brings the number of Primark stores in Campania to three. This represents a key step in the retailer's journey in Italy, where the workforce already exceeds 5.000.
“Reaching the milestone of our 500th global store right here is a source of enormous pride,” commented Luca Ciuffreda, Director of Primark Italy.
"Italy has welcomed us enthusiastically since our arrival ten years ago, and we're happy to bring new professional opportunities and convenience to the Campania region."
Since opening its first store in Dublin in 1969, Primark is now present in 19 markets across Europe, the United States, and the Middle East. The expansion plan will continue apace: the company aims to reach 28 stores in Italy with upcoming openings planned in Giugliano in Campania (Primark Grande Sud) and Parma.
