Gratteri on TV: 'TikTok is the showcase of the mafia'

"TikTok is the mafia's showcase." Naples' chief prosecutor, Nicola Gratteri , in an interview on Rai 3's "Timeline ," raised a new alarm about the risks associated with the use of social media by criminal organizations.

"They show off their wealth, their designer labels, and their money, and they say, 'We're the new model, do you want to be like us?'" Gratteri explained. "Young people without a stable career find themselves caught up in this and think that's their future."

A dangerous and misleading message, which fuels mafia culture and undermines the foundations of society. "For mafiosi, social media is a challenge to institutions, a display of arrogance," emphasized the Naples prosecutor.

But there's another problem to address: distrust in the justice system. "People often don't report crimes because they don't trust them ," Gratteri said. "Often, we as law enforcement officers and magistrates aren't credible; we fail to inspire trust. It's primarily our problem."

A delicate and complex issue, which requires a concerted effort to combat organized crime and strengthen the sense of legality.

"If you analyze the Tiber and Arno rivers you find significant traces of cocaine. The increase in drug addicts in Italy and Europe is continuous, there is an increase in deaths from heart attacks of 40-50-60 year olds due to cocaine use, which is less shocking because there is no needle".
