Paupisi massacre, in the Salvatore Ocone panel
Paupisi – "We obtained justice, not revenge," the civil plaintiffs' lawyers commented on the ruling that sentenced Salvatore Ocone to life in prison for the brutal murder of his wife, Elisa, 49, and his son, Cosimo, 15. This family massacre occurred exactly one year ago, on September 30, 2025, in Paupisi, in the Benevento province. The son of the man, Mario Ocone, who survived because he was away on business that day, offered a terse comment. "A year has passed since the incident. We trusted the justice system, and fortunately, everyone was on my side," the young man said.
After killing his wife, 59-year-old Salvatore Ocone wandered around in his car with the body of his dead son and his dying daughter Antonia, whom the killer believed to be dead. Nicodemo Gentili, one of the plaintiffs' lawyers, recalled this macabre circumstance: "Imagine," the lawyer said as he left the courthouse, "exactly a year ago, at this time, Salvatore Ocone, after committing the massacre, was wandering around in his car with the body of his dead son Cosimo and his dying daughter Antonia."
The girl, who fought for weeks between life and death, returned to Paupisi last March after months of rehabilitation at specialized centers, and is now living with the care of some family members.
The Benevento Court of Assizes, which sentenced Ocone to life imprisonment, also ruled that the murderer—who was deemed competent at the time of the crime—must serve a period of solitary confinement of less than eight months, be banned in perpetuity from holding public office, be stripped of parental responsibility, and be ordered to pay damages, to be settled separately, to the civil parties, including a provisional sum of 50 euros for Mario and 80 euros for Antonia.
