Serious accident on the Cilentana: one dead and two injured

A dramatic road accident occurred this afternoon along the Cilentana road, between the Centola and Poderia junctions.

The accident involved a tanker truck loaded with diesel and a van, which collided in circumstances that are still unclear. The consequences were very serious: a man lost his life, while two other people were injured, one of whom is in critical condition.

The balance of the accident

The man who was traveling in the passenger side of the van fared the worst. Extracted from the wreckage of the vehicle by firefighters, he was rushed to the Ruggi hospital in Salerno, where he died shortly after admission.

The wife, who was driving the van, was instead transferred to the Santa Maria della Speranza hospital in Battipaglia. Her conditions, according to initial information, remain serious. The situation of her nephew, admitted to the same hospital but not in danger of life, is better.

Rescue and investigations

Numerous emergency vehicles intervened on the scene, including 118 ambulances, an air ambulance, firefighters and law enforcement. The red helmets worked to free the man trapped in the van's wreckage, which was reduced to a pile of wreckage.

The Carabinieri of the Battipaglia Company and the agents of the local Police Station, led by Deputy Police Commissioner Giuseppe Fedele, supported the operations and started the investigations to reconstruct the dynamics of the accident. At the moment, the causes of the collision remain unknown.
