Naples, €153 million Superbonus scam: 64 phantom construction sites discovered

Naples – A maelstrom of tax credits for unfinished or unfinished projects, monetized through nationwide transfers. This is the mechanism at the center of the major investigation coordinated by the Naples Public Prosecutor's Office (Section II – Crimes against Public Administration), which led the Provincial Finance Police to execute a precautionary seizure of €152.959.525,45.

According to what emerged from technical inspections and on-site inspections, construction work on 64 construction sites was either never started or was interrupted well before completion, despite the technical certifications submitted.

Once created, the tax credits were entered into the chain of sales to achieve a semblance of formal regularity. The next step involved selling them to buyers throughout Italy, allowing for both immediate monetization and improper use for tax offsetting.

The seizure ordered by the investigating judge sealed the sums still deposited in the tax drawers, preventing further transfers or compensations that would have aggravated the financial damage to the Treasury.

Since this is a precautionary measure adopted during the preliminary investigation phase, it can be challenged in the appropriate courts; all suspects are presumed innocent until a final conviction is issued.
